Knitted Washcloth + Beginner Help for Knitting (Finished Project)

Happy Labor Day everyone! What a great way to start off the week with a day off of work, am I right? I switched up my calendar for published articles this week because something amazing happened! I KNITTED A FREAKING WASHCLOTH! 3 washcloths to be exact.

I know, I know, what’s the big deal right? Let me rephrase with better use of capitalization. I KNITTED a washcloth!

A little back story…

So some of you are still probably wondering what the big deal is. All sorts of people knit all sorts of products every day, but I knitted it all by myself! I’m so stinking proud of myself at this moment. So long story short, I’ve literally been trying to learn to knit for the last fourish years. I had college classmates try and teach me, I tried watching tutorials on youtube, I even went and bought books and online courses to try and learn. I just couldn’t quite figure it out. IT WAS SO HARD GUYS! Why is knitting so freaking hard?

Fast forward a few years and last weekend I came across a website called Two of Wands and there were all of these beautiful patterns for sweaters, tanks and luscious scarves and I just wanted to make all of them! So I bought a couple of patterns (gotta support our fellow craftswomen, am I right?). I decided this time I would figure it out. Let me tell you, I STRUGGLED! Ask my fiancé. He watched me struggle for a good two hours while we were watching youtube videos (The Slow-Mo Guys anyone? We are only slightly obsessed with everything Rooster Teeth and by slightly, I mean that’s the only thing we watch!)

With a little help from my friends…

So here is where it all changed. I’ve tried SOOOO MANY different tutorials and for some reason I just couldn’t figure it out and then I found a channel from American Knitters that for some reason made everything make sense. It’s a series of 9 videos that teaches you how to cast on, how to knit the Knit and Purl stitch, then how to incorporate those two stitches into a Garter & Stocking Stitch. From there it teaches you how to increase and decrease knit stitches to make a dishcloth!

And BAM! I made my first dishcloth. I made a couple mistakes in it and I have major pointer finger pain, but overall I’m super proud of myself and can’t wait to figure out what my next practice project is going to be! Not to mention, with the wedding coming up we could use dishcloths in the large quantities!
