Black Bean Washcloth Collection – Set of Two Beginner Washcloths

Ello Ello!
I promised myself that I would have fall projects available this month, but it just doesn’t seem to be working that way unfortunately. I’ve been working on learning new stitches and learning how to use a afghan crochet hook! So much stuff to do, not enough time in the day!

When I came across Meg Made With Love’s article for the Three Rustic Washcloth Patterns, I immediately went and purchased them on Etsy to try with some new yarn I bought on clearance at JoAnn’s.

The Bean Stitch is honestly one of my favorite stitches out there. It’s just so cozy and like little coffee beans in a pattern. It’s fantastic honestly! So I was dying to try the Rustic Bean Stitch Washcloth Pattern first.

It’s the yarn that counts…

I managed to find 3 skeins of Bernat Handicrafter DeLux Cotton Yarn for about $2 bucks a piece on clearance in black. Wasn’t super excited about it being black because it’s so hard to photograph, but that yarn is usually around $6 bucks a piece, so I wasn’t going to pass it up!

Honestly, this yarn has an absorbency level beyond anything I can fathom! Typically I have issues with keeping washcloths soapy for the duration of a whole bath. Nope! Not with this yarn! Miracles I tell ya!

The Goods

Per usual, I tried to follow the original pattern fairly close, but tweaked a couple things that make it better for myself, which you can read about down below.

• 1 skein of Bernat Handicraft DeLux Cotton Yarn in Black – (With the changes I made in size to the pattern, I can make about 3 washcloths per 236yd (142g) skein)
5.00mm (H) Crochet Hook
Ruler
Yarn Needle
Scissors

What you need to know

This pattern might be a little bit more technical, but I think anyone should be able to get it pretty quick including beginners. Once you get the hand of the pattern it’s pretty smooth sailing after that.

You will need to know how to single crochet and the mini bean stitch, which is explained VERY well (written instructions and video) in the original blog article.

Size

The original pattern calls for a foundation chain of 33 to make a 9.25″ x 8.75″ finished washcloth. This was actually a little odd of a size for me so I reduced my initial foundation chain to 27 making my final washcloth averaging around 8-8.5″ all the way around.

Border

A single crochet border was added around all the sides, but the border isn’t necessary and actually isn’t called for in the original pattern. I made 2 sc stitches in each corner.

Highly recommend going over to Meg With Love to check out the original pattern and try it out for yourself!
