[Pattern] Double Crochet Granny Square || Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hello everyone!
Today I bring you a simple granny square pattern for any level of crochet user, the Double Crochet Square!
This square is very simple, easy and is very commonly used in many crochet projects! Depending on what type of yarn and hook are used, on average this square is about 5-6″ all the way across.

What You Will Need:

• yarn of any color you choose (I’m using a bright red color)
• Recommended crochet hook for the yarn you choose (I am using a G-4.50mm crochet hook)
Scissors
Yarn Needle (I use a metal yarn needle, but any one will do)

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• ss = slip stitch
• st ch = stitch chain
• dc = double crochet
• sp = space

Instructions:

(I didn’t take end-round images for this pattern because it’s pretty simple and pretty much the same for each round, however if you have any questions or are have trouble, feel free to comment below or email me at [email protected].)

Foundation Chain:

Ch 4, join with a ss to form a ring.
(4 sts total)

Round 1:

Ch 5 (st ch, counts as your first dc and ch 2 sp), *3 dc into ring, ch 2*, repeat from *to* twice more, 2 dc in the ring, join with a ss to the third ch of the 5-ch st ch.
(20 sts total)

Round 2:

Ss in the next ch-2 sp, ch 7 (st ch, counts as first dc and ch 4 sp), 2 dc in the ch-2 sp, *1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, (2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp (this will be your first full corner completed), repeat from *to* twice more, 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, 1 dc in the same sp as your ch-7 st ch, join with a ss to the third ch of your ch-7 st ch.
(44 sts total)

Round 3:

Ss in the next ch-4 sp, ch 7 (st ch, counts as first dc and ch 4), 2 dc in the same ch-4 sp as your ch-7 st ch, *1 dc in each of the next 7 sts, (2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc) in the ch-4 sp*, repeat from *to* twice more, 1 dc in the next 7 sts, 1 dc in the same sp at your ch-7 st ch, join with a ss to the third ch of your ch-7 st ch.
(60 sts total)

Round 4:

Ss in the next ch-4 sp, ch 7 (st ch, counts as first dc and ch 4), 2 dc in the ch-4 sp with the ch-7 st ch, *1 dc in each of the next 11 sts, (2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc) in the ch-4 sp, repeat from *to* twice more, 1 dc in the next 11 sts, 1 dc in the same ch-4 sp as the ch-7 st ch, join with a ss to the third ch of the ch-7 st ch. Fasten off and tie in ends.
(76 sts total)

Add or reduce the number of rounds for this granny square to make it smaller or larger depending on your project!
